Since launching in 2017, the Madaraka Express (SGR) has become the go-to travel option between Nairobi and Mombasa. Operated by Kenya Railways, the service offers modern, efficient, and affordable rail transport with two train types:

Intercity Express: Direct train between Nairobi Terminus and Mombasa Terminus (no stops).

Inter-County Train: Makes stops at Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Maisenyi, and Voi.
Tip: SGR train tickets can be booked up to 60 days in advance. Early booking is recommended due to high demand.

The Madaraka Express offers three ticket categories – Premium Class, First Class and Economy, with the fares prices as listed below for the express service;
PREMIUM

- Children (BTW 3-11 YRS) Half-fare

– $15 per ticket for Premium Class

SGR Train Tickets Booking
Frequently Asked Questions
Cancellation and Rescheduling requests can be done forty-eight hours prior to the departure time indicated on the ticket. Cancellation or rescheduling is done over the counter at any of the SGR passanger service stations
SGR Ticket refunds shall be subject to a 30% fee of the ticket cost. No refunds will be done for damaged or defaced tickets.
Rescheduling a ticket will attract a 10% fee of the ticket cost.
Unfortunately, you cannot transfer a ticket from one passenger to another.
