Day by Day
Nairobi - Masai Mara
Your adventure begins with a scenic flight from Nairobi to Maasai Mara. The flight takes approximately one hour, and you’ll have stunning views of the Kenyan landscape from above. Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up by a safari guide and taken to your accommodation in the reserve. Maasai Mara is home to an abundance of wildlife, including the famous “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and more. The reserve is named after the Maasai people, a semi-nomadic tribe that has lived in the area for centuries. The Maasai are known for their distinctive clothing, jewelry, and traditional way of life. After settling in, you’ll embark on an afternoon game drive in the reserve.
Your guide will take you on a journey through the savannah, pointing out animals and sharing their knowledge of the local ecosystem. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos and observe the animals up close. One of the highlights of Maasai Mara is the annual wildebeest migration, which takes place from July to October. During this time, millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles make their way from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Maasai Mara Reserve in search of fresh grazing land. The Mara River, which runs through the reserve, is a crucial crossing point, and predators such as crocodiles and lions lie in wait for their chance to catch a meal. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the migration, you’ll witness one of the most spectacular natural events on earth.
Maasai Mara National Park
On day two of your safari, you’ll embark on a full-day game drive in Maasai Mara. This is your chance to explore the reserve in-depth and see as much wildlife as possible. Your guide will take you to various parts of the reserve, searching for animals and providing insights about their behaviors and habitats. You’ll have a chance to see the Mara River, which is famous for its annual wildebeest migration. Depending on the time of year, you may witness thousands of wildebeests and zebras crossing the river, as predators such as crocodiles and lions lie in wait.
You’ll also have a chance to visit a local Maasai village and learn about their way of life. In addition to the wildlife, Maasai Mara is known for its stunning scenery, including vast grasslands, rolling hills, and acacia trees. You’ll have a chance to see the landscape from different perspectives, including from atop a hot air balloon. This optional activity is a must-do for any safari enthusiast, as it offers a unique and unforgettable way to experience the beauty of the reserve.
Maasai Mara - Nairobi
On your final day, you’ll have one last game drive in the morning before departing Maasai Mara for Nairobi. The flight back takes approximately one hour, during which you can reflect on the incredible experiences of the past three days on Safari. Please note that this itinerary is fully customizable and can be tailored to include multiple parks and destinations, depending on your interests and preferences. If you have more time available, you could consider adding on a visit to other parks such as Amboseli National Park, Tsavo East National Park, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Samburu National Reserve, or Lake Nakuru National Park.
Amboseli National Park is known for its large herds of elephants and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, while Tsavo East National Park is home to a variety of wildlife including lions, leopards, and elephants. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is located in the central region of Kenya and is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. The conservancy is home to several endangered and rare species, including the northern white rhino, of which only two remain in the world. Samburu National Reserve is located in the northern part of Kenya and is known for its rugged terrain and desert-like landscapes. The reserve is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including rare species such as the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx. Lake Nakuru National Park is famous for its flamingos and is also home to a wide range of other bird species.
